11 Tips to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session

We can’t wait to show you how beautiful you are!

So, you’ve decided to book a boudoir portrait session – how exciting! This experience is about celebrating your unique beauty and confidence, and I want to ensure you feel as prepared and comfortable as possible. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your big day:

1. Arrive with Clean, Dry Hair, a Clean Face, and Loose Clothing

Starting with a clean slate is key. Make sure to arrive with freshly washed and dried hair, as well as a clean face. This will give our makeup artist the perfect canvas to work with, ensuring your look is flawless and tailored just for you. As for what to wear to the studio, just keep it comfy and loose. Tight elastic bands on bras, panties, or even tight socks will leave marks on your skin that you won’t want in your images. You’ll change into a robe before we start hair and makeup, so you won’t need to worry about that.

2. Wear Clear Deodorant

It might seem like a small detail, but wearing clear deodorant can make a big difference. It helps avoid any unwanted marks on your outfits and keeps you feeling fresh throughout the session.

3. Bring Inspiration Pics of Makeup

If you have a particular makeup look in mind, bring some inspirational photos! This will help our makeup artist understand your vision and create a look that makes you feel amazing. Whether you prefer a natural glow or something more dramatic, having a visual reference is super helpful.

4. Makeup and Hair Will Take About an Hour

Plan to spend your first hour with our amazing hair and makeup artist. This is your time to relax and get pampered before the session begins. We’ll make sure you look and feel your best, ready to rock your boudoir shoot with confidence.

5. The Session Itself Takes About Two Hours

After makeup and hair, we’ll dive into the session, which typically lasts about two hours. This time allows us to explore different poses, outfits, and settings to capture a variety of stunning images. It’s all about making sure we get those perfect shots that showcase your beauty and personality.

Once the session is done, we’ll give you a chance to get comfy, and maybe go grab a coffee or some ice cream while we sort through your images. After 20-30 minutes, we’ll be ready to reveal your images to you, and you’ll be able to take advantage of our discounted collections before you leave for the day.

In total, you’ll spend 4-5 hours with us on shoot day, so be sure to get some good rest the night before!

6. Bring Five Sets of Lingerie/Outfits

Variety is the spice of life, and it’s also the key to a fantastic boudoir session. Bring at least five sets of lingerie or outfits. This gives us plenty of options to work with, ensuring we capture a range of looks that you’ll love.

7. Bring a Variety (Not Just Bra and Panties)

Think beyond just bras and panties. Bring a mix of different styles – maybe a cute bodysuit, a sheer babydoll, a silky robe, or even a favorite piece of clothing that makes you feel sexy and confident. You might even consider a button-down shirt and a tie from his closet as a surprise for him. Don’t worry about bringing too much. The more variety, the better! And we’ll help you decide what will look best on you in your photos.

8. Jewel Tones Are Always Beautiful

When in doubt, jewel tones are a safe bet. Colors like emerald green, deep sapphire, and rich burgundy look stunning on camera and complement a wide range of skin tones. They also add a touch of elegance and vibrancy to your photos.

9. Cut All the Tags Off Your Lingerie

This might seem minor, but trust me, it makes a big difference. Cut all the tags off your lingerie before the session. Tags can stick out or show through anything sheer, and it can be very noticeable in photos. Removing them ahead of time ensures your outfits look seamless and perfect, and we don’t waste session time cutting them out.

10. Bring Accessories Like Jewelry and High Heel Shoes

Accessories can add that extra flair to your boudoir photos. Bring along some favorite pieces of jewelry and a pair of high heels. They can help complete your look and add an extra layer of sophistication and style to your images. This is great chance to wear some pieces that you don’t get to use very often!

11. Make Sure Nails Are Manicured and Neat

Don’t forget about your nails! Whether you prefer a classic manicure or something more fun and colorful, make sure your nails are neat and well-groomed. Hands often feature prominently in our boudoir photos, so having nice nails adds to the overall polished look.
